SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, Pa. — Two state troopers are in the hospital, and a suspect is dead after a shooting Thursday morning in Susquehanna County .

Officials say Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins responded to a welfare check along Route 171 in Thompson Township shortly after 11 a.m.

That's when authorities say the suspect, armed with a rifle, opened fire, seriously injuring both troopers.

Troopers Perechinsky and Jenkins were airlifted to a hospital where they remain in stable condition.

The gunman was eventually shot and killed, according to state police. His identity has not yet been released.

Governor Shapiro broke the news during an event in Bucks County, later visiting one of the injured troopers at Geisinger CMC in Scranton.
