According to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos on Thursday afternoon, running back CJ Hester has left the Michigan Football program just four months after transferring in.

Formerly of Western Michigan and UMass, Hester committed to the Wolverines back in April shortly after he entered the portal. Now, he is back in the portal and will, per Nakos, take a year off before suiting up again. He will have two years of eligibility remaining starting next season.

Hester was one of three running backs to transfer into Ann Arbor this offseason, along with Justice Haynes (Alabama) and John Volker (Princeton). As a sophomore last year at UMass, he ran for 529 yards and four touchdowns, while also making 14 receptions for 58 yards.

He was expected to compete for the RB3 spot this season for the Wolveri
