Placer County is changing how it distributes WIC program benefits.
WIC stands for Women, Infants and Children, and it refers to the program designed to improve the health and nutrition needs of kids across the country.
California recently made some changes to its WIC program's food benefits.
Those changes should make it easier for Placer County recipients to access fresh food at places like farmers markets.
New WIC cards will feature a QR code to allow the purchase of fruits and vegetables at some Placer County farmers markets.
Shopping at farmers markets is a win-win. Local growers get support and local families get farm-to-fork access to great seasonal food.
