Two men were shot, one fatally, in separate incidents just hours apart at the same public housing complex in the Rockaways on Wednesday night, the NYPD said.

On Thursday, police were investigating whether the two shootings were related.

NYPD officers came to the New York City Housing Authority's Hammel Houses around 7:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a man shot at 84-14 Beach Channel Drive, one of the westernmost buildings near Beach 86th Street.

They found a 39-year-old man with several gunshot wounds to his abdomen, and took him to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not publicly identified him.
