Visitors will find old favorites, new attractions as Erie County Fair opens for 185th time

Carnival rides, deep-fried food and livestock under the summer sun – and the haze.

Visitors flocked to the opening day of the 185th Erie County Fair in Hamburg on Wednesday despite three consecutive days of unruly air quality.

Some even crossed state lines and country borders to visit.

Kim and Chris Fredrich traveled just over an hour from their home in Canada to spend a day at the fair with their two kids. The couple touted their trolley of snacks they brought for lunch. (The fair allows families to bring outside food and nonalcoholic drink for picnics, which is unique from other festivals.)
