TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Police Department has decided to close its Records Department for Friday, Aug. 8.

The decision reflects the department's deep appreciation for Officer Toalua "Charlie" Aumua's dedication and service to his community. Aumua tragically drowned in Lake Belton on Aug. 1 , shocking both law enforcement and Central Texas citizens.

Temple PD posted the announcement on Facebook.

Multiple agencies from across the area, including the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Game Wardens, were called out to Belton Lake Friday morning after they received a 911 call about a drowning near the Freedom Boat Club on Cedar Ridge Park Road.

Aumua's body was recovered Saturday morning before being transported for an autopsy.
