A 60-year-old man was killed after being hit by two trucks while crossing Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst.

The crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Buffalo Avenue, according to Suffolk County Police.

Mariano Diaz-Pichardo was walking his bicycle across the highway when a Hino box truck tried to swerve to avoid him but struck the bike. He was then hit by a Ford F550, according to investigators.

Diaz-Pichardo was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The box truck driver, identified as a 30-year-old Bay Shore man, and the Ford driver, identified as a 54-year-old Ronkonkoma man, were not injured.

The department’s Motor Carrier Safety Section inspected both vehicles at the scene.
