PRESIDENT TRUMP on Thursday ordered the Commerce Department to initiate a new census, escalating the redistricting battles raging across the U.S.
The census, like redistricting, typically happens at the start of each decade.
But Trump's order for a new census comes as Texas seeks to redraw its district lines ahead of the 2026 midterm elections in an effort to produce more favorable results for Republicans.
