The Government has responded to a petition calling for all individuals above the State Pension age to receive a council tax reduction. The petition, which gathered over 10,000 signatures, urged for everyone over the State Pension age to be given a discounted council tax rate, prompting a response from HM Treasury.

The petition called on the Government to pass legislation ensuring that pensioners aren't forced to allocate "a very significant percentage" of their income towards this tax.
