As an alum of the Bronx High School of Science, one of New York City’s elite specialized high schools, Zohran Mamdani had advocated ditching the controversial single test that decides admissions to the programs.
But after changing his stance on that during the primaries, the Democratic mayoral nominee went into greater depth Thursday on why he will no longer push to scrap the SHSAT , which critics blame for disproportionately low numbers of Black and Hispanic students accepted into the schools .
