When John and William McKeough came to Chatham in 1847, they established a hardware and plumbing business that had an immediate success.

Their first store was located on the north side of King Street, second building west of Sixth Street.

By the early 1860s, the brothers had obtained the wherewithal to build a substantial new building a bit further to the west, on the main street.

The spot they chose was on the south side of King Street, about halfway between Fourth and Fifth streets.

They put up a substantial three floor building with the street number being 108
