EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - An Evansville mother was sentenced in the death of her 4-year-old today.

Officials say 24-year-old Destiny Rhoades entered a plea of guilty on a count of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

Back in June 2024 , 4-year-old Octavia Aquino was found unresponsive while in the care of Rhoades’ boyfriend 16-year-old Christian Gonzalez.

An adult who lived in the home told police they saw bruises and what appeared to be a human bite mark on the child.

Octavia died days later, and her autopsy revealed blunt force trauma as the cause of death.

Rhoades and Gonzalez were charged with her death.

Gonzalez was sentenced to 60 years in prison earlier this year.
