The state’s largest teachers’ union has joined advocacy groups ACLU-NH and GLAD Law in a lawsuit filed in federal court Thursday challenging a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) ban that took effect in the Granite State on July 1.
The law, contained within House Bill 2’s budget provisions, became effective after being signed into law by Gov. Kelly Ayotte in late June. Opponents say it bans diversity, equity and inclusion programs pertaining to race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability in New Hampshire schools (including both K-12 public schools as well as both public and private colleges and universities) and public entities like police departments and libraries.
