KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - When it’s the first day of school, students want to look their best.

But some can’t always afford to. The Knox County Schools district is helping families with that.

The district’s Clothing and Resource Center almost feels like a clothing store.

Shirts, pants, shoes, all the essentials to make sure students are comfortable when they walk into the classroom.

“One of the issues that students sometimes encounter is having a lack of clothing or a lack of shoes,” Heather Willis, School Culture Supervisor said.

Willis said staff have already put together 70 orders.

Social workers refer students to the center.

From there, the social workers talk with the student or family to figure their needs.
