This wasn’t a routine suspect search and capture.

A Walnut Creek police officer recently responded to a home and removed a rattlesnake that was hiding in a kitchen cabinet, the department said Thursday in a social media post.

Police shared 911 dispatch audio and body camera footage of the incident.

“Yeah, uh, we have a rattlesnake in our kitchen,” the 911 caller could be heard saying.

Police said the responding officer “channeled his inner Irwin” – seemingly a shoutout to Steve Irwin, the well-known Australian wildlife expert and television personality – and removed the snake from the cabinet by using a golf club to slide it into a cooking pot. The officer then safely released the snake back into the wild, police said.
