The new IDEA Lopez campus in Odessa welcomed 450 students for the first day of school Thursday.

Located at 3401 W. Fifth Street, the campus is launching with kindergarten through second and sixth grade and will add a grade per year in elementary and secondary to reach 12th grade. IDEA schools have academy for elementary students and college prep for middle and high school.

Media was invited to visit the campus on the first day, which included a red carpet — which the kids loved — music, and a balloon arch photo opportunity. The photo opportunity will also be available Friday.

The two-story campus will have middle and high school on the second floor and elementary on the first floor.
