HARLINGEN — Three years after taking office, Mayor Norma Sepulveda and City Commissioner Daniel Lopez are facing their first re-election bids.
But Commissioner Ford Kinsley said he won’t be running for a second term.
On Wednesday, commissioners called a Nov. 4 election, with the mayor’s seat along with the commission’s Place 1 and 2 positions on the ballot.
In a historic May 2022 election, Sepulveda, an attorney, overwhelmingly defeated longtime Mayor Chris Boswell, becoming the first woman to win the city’s highest elected office.
In a four-man scramble for the Place 2 seat, Lopez, an attorney, came out as the top voter-getter, with former U.S. Border Patrol agent Ernesto Cisneros coming up as the runner-up, while then-Commissioner Frank Puente and community leader Nick Consiglio fell
