SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— This week was the start of the school year for many schools around the valley.

Thursday was the first day of school for Southwest School Corporation. WTWO stopped by Sullivan High School to talk to Principal Monty Kirk. He said there have been a lot of smiling faces, from both students and teachers. This is Kirk's first year at Sullivan High School, and he said he's excited for the school year to get going.

"we're glad to be back," said Kirk. "We're ready to just get into our fall schedules and our fall athletics, and just get everybody back on track."

His advice to students as the new year starts is to come in with a good attitude, be ready to learn, and see what high school has to offer.
