Authorities in California have launched an investigation after footage emerged showing a man viciously stabbing a pit bull that was reportedly trying to protect its owner.

Officers responded to the scene near a middle school in Long Beach early on Saturday, Aug. 2, after receiving reports of a stabbing, KTLA reported.

Traffic News Los Angeles (TNLA) footage obtained by the outlet shows the suspect, who is yet to be identified, brandish a knife as he approaches two other men, one of whom is suspected to be the dog's owner.
