It was a sunny day on the Chicago River Thursday, and thousands joined together to celebrate the annual Ducky Derby.

The event, sponsored by Jewel-Osco, saw more than 82,000 rubber ducks plunge into the river off of the Columbus Street bridge, all in an effort to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois, according to organizers.

According to officials, this year’s event was a smashing success, raising nearly $600,000 to support the group’s efforts to provide programming for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
