As Ontario’s public colleges face sweeping staffing and course suspensions, Niagara College has avoided the heaviest cuts.
Still, the local institution is grappling with difficult choices as it reduces staff and pauses programs as financial pressures mount.
The cuts are a result of a broader provincial crisis driven by funding shortages and declining international student enrolment, which across Ontario has forced the suspension of more than 600 programs and resulted in the loss of 10,000 jobs.
While Niagara College has not been hit as hard as its peers, impacts are being felt.
