Dogs under the care of Niagara SPCA and Humane Society won’t be alone in being best friends of men and women at a fundraising tournament at Peninsula Lakes Golf & Country Club in Pelham later this month.
Cats also will benefit when upwards of 120 golfers come out for an 18-hole shotgun start to show their support for animal welfare by competing in the fifth annual Tailgates Charity Classic on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The event has raised more than $20,000 over the past four years.
Ryan Nava, owner of Tailgates Bar & Grill in Welland’s Fitch Street Plaza, hopes to top the $25,000 mark in money the event has raised for local charities. He chose Niagara SPCA as recipient of proceeds this year after accompanying a friend to its Welland animal shelter to adopt a dog.
“I went there with him to pick
