EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -Earlier this afternoon at Lamasco Park, the city of Evansville received a grant from AARP.
This funding is part of the 2025 Community Challenge Grants program.
Specifically, this grant is for Community One’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program.
The program will use the funds to install handrails or grab bars in 30 homes of residents who are 50 and older.
The goal is to support safe and independent living for older adults in the community.
Officials say this is a quick-action project, intended to be completed by the end of this year.
“Our parks guests want safe spaces and so yes I think we hear that a lot… the additional lightings at the greenway and other parks has been very popular with our parks guest," said Deputy director Evansville parks and recreation,
