Provincial legislation governing civic elections doesn't require candidates to release their full donor list until March 1, 2026, though partial disclosure is required by Sept. 30

A day after incumbent Jyoti Gondek launched her mayoral re-election campaign by pledging more transparency at city hall, a rival candidate is calling on her to prove it by disclosing her list of donors from this year.

Jeromy Farkas, a mayoral candidate who finished runner-up to Gondek in the 2021 election, launched a public petition Thursday demanding the sitting mayor reveal who has financially backed her campaign in 2025.

“The requirement for disclosure is even more significant for sitting councillors and the mayor because of the fact they’re actively voting on important matters,” he said
