DALLAS — The Dallas Park and Recreation Department could close two community pools and "right-size" hours at the city's recreation centers as it faces its first budget reduction in five years, staff told the Park Board Thursday.

Set to be unveiled Friday, the city's budget is expected to include cuts across departments as Dallas grapples with a lower-than-expected sales tax revenue report, an increase in home appraisal appeals and a voter-approved mandate to hire hundreds of new police officers.

For the Park and Recreation Department, the budget reduction comes as expenses mount at Fair Park after the city canceled its contract with the nonprofit operator Fair Park First and its subcontractor, OVG360. The contract cancellation means the city is taking back over control of operations
