BISMARCK — The National Park Service has announced a $1 million award to support the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians for the construction of five playground and picnic areas, a project expected to be completed by the end of 2029.
The funds will be allocated to the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department through the Land and Water Conservation Fund, according to a Thursday, Aug. 7, release from the office of Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D.
According to the release, the National Park Service since 1965 has provided more than 45,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grants, which are mostly funded with federal offshore oil and gas lease revenue.
