The Delaware Grocery Initiative, which was signed into law about one year ago, is starting to make some progress in identifying and addressing what are known as food deserts.
Three checks were presented this week by the DGI and the Delaware Division of Small Business to small businesses, non-profits and other organizations trying to improve their communities. One of them is the Hispanic American Association of Delaware in Wilmington, which is seeking to develop a bilingual kitchen incubator, "which will allow small businesses to extend their businesses in the future, and therefore provide jobs to other individuals," according to its co-executive director Andreina Cerrato.
The HAAD's grant amounted to more than $12,000.
