Andrew Cuomo proposed an affordability agenda on Thursday targeting transit and food — but said his plan was more realistic than the ideas being pressed by Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.

Mamdani, in advocating for free buses, groceries and childcare, has pushed affordability to the center of this year’s mayoral campaign. Cuomo Thursday proposed expanding the city’s Fair Fares program to cover free buses and trains for those at 150% of the federal poverty level and expanding free subsidies for food to those just above the SNAP eligibility line.

He said these proposals, announced at a Midtown press conference, are more realistic and effective versions of Mamdani’s campaign promises of free buses and city-run grocery stores.
