Chatham-Kent Public Health is warning of a rise in drug poisonings and unexpected reactions to substances in the area.

In a release Thursday afternoon, officials reminded the public the unregulated drug supply is unpredictable and always changing.

Substances may not be what individuals expect, increasing the risk of harm or death.

“We are seeing a concerning rise in overdose events in Chatham-Kent and are actively monitoring the situation,” the health unit said in a follow-up statement to The Daily News. “Because the unregulated drug supply is constantly shifting we cannot comment on the exact substances involved at this time.”

At this time, public health couldn’t confirm whether any lives have been lost recently as a result.
