MINNEAPOLIS — After serving in the legislature for five sessions, State Sen. Omar Fateh has turned his attention to municipal office this fall by launching a bid for mayor of Minneapolis.
A Washington, D.C., native who moved to Minneapolis about a decade ago, Fateh has emerged as the top challenger to two-time incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey after winning the Minneapolis DFL endorsement last month. Frey has appealed the results of that Minneapolis endorsement to the state level through the Minnesota DFL, citing flaws in the electronic voting system used by delegates.
