GRANDVIEW, Mo. -- New details are emerging concerning Wednesday’s collapse of a staircase at a Grandview apartment complex.
On Thursday, a city codes enforcement officer determined that those stairs had recently been remounted, but that they were safe to use. A maintenance employee was injured when the staircase fell on Wednesday afternoon.
Grandview Spokesperson Valarie Poindexter said that a city inspector also recommended that temporary wooden steps be put in place until all stairs at the Grand Summit Apartments could be inspected by engineers.
Documents indicate recent citations have been issued for code violations here, but property owners have always been cooperative in making repairs, and none of those violations were related to safety.
