BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - On Wednesday, the family of Jabari Peoples got to see the bodycam video of the shooting that killed Peoples in June for the first time .

Peoples family saw a portion of the footage of his shooting, and they have been vocal about wanting to see the entire video and it being released to the public.

Homewood Police say state law doesn’t allow them to release it.

The attorney representing Jabari Peoples’ family said they’re pushing forward with a lawsuit because they want to see more than the four minutes of footage they were shown, and believe it could provide answers they believe they deserve.

Local attorney, Kirby Farris, said the law on body camera footage lays out how law enforcement can release this kind of video and to whom.
