Entering Year 2 under head coach Boe Smith, the Compass Academy football team will have higher expectations this season, especially after returning nine starters on offense and eight on defense.

Last year’s team ended up getting a share of the District 3-3A Div. II title-splitting the spoils with Crane and Alpine in the four-team standings.

This season looks to be more hopeful for a team that looks to not only add another district title but to go further in the playoffs as the program enters its sixth year of varsity football.

“We expect big things,” Smith said. “This a group of kids that were under coach (Floyd) White for two years. Now this will be my second year. We feel like there’s a good foundation for the last four years and this is a big senior group for us.”
