Vicky Mboko’s meteoric rise has continued with her first-ever WTA title.

The 18-year-old Canadian did it on home soil, upsetting Naomi Osaka in the final of the National Bank Open in Montreal. Mboko won the thrilling three-set match (2-6, 6-4, 6-1) to become just the second Canadian woman to win this tournament in 56 years. Bianca Andreescu was the last Canadian to do it in 2019 .

Just like she did in the semi-final, Mboko battled back after losing the first set. The match turned early on in the second set, as Mboko appeared to frustrate Osaka, breaking her serve on multiple occasions.
