On Thursday, August 7, 2025, Sheriff Austin Garrett honored Corrections Deputy Timothy Higgins for his heroic actions during a medical emergency at the Hamilton County Jail in October 2024.
Deputy Higgins, alongside his team, administered CPR, Narcan, and used an Ambu-Bag to help stabilize an inmate suffering from a drug overdose. Their quick response was critical in saving the inmate’s life.
While Higgins was unable to attend the original commendation ceremony due to scheduling conflicts, his fellow responders—Corrections Sergeant Jeremy Poteet and Corrections Deputies Hunter Whaley and Brandon Muhleback—were previously recognized for their roles.
Sheriff Garrett praised the team’s professionalism and swift action in response to the life-threatening incident.
