Florida International University provided a portable shelter to the Florida Division of Emergency Management, the state agency that built the so-called "Alligator Alcatraz" detention facility, according to documents.
The university provided NBC6 with the documents on Thursday following a public records request.
The portable shelter, from the company FORTS USA, can be used for various applications, such as emergency response.
An email provided by FIU indicates the FORTS unit was requested so it could be used for on-site coordination.
NBC6 reached out and asked the university for more details on the arrangement, where the request originated, and if the university is being reimbursed or compensated.
