Canadian teen Victoria Mboko made history Thursday night.

Mboko, the wild card from Toronto, defeated Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 on Thursday to win the National Bank Open women’s tennis tournament.

She becomes the first Canadian woman to win the tournament since Bianca Andreescu in 2019.

Along the way, she knocked out Sofia Kenin, Coco Gauff, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Elena Rybakina in a fearless charge to her first WTA final.

Against Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion representing Japan, Mboko had the home crowd firmly behind her.

Mboko is now projected to crack the WTA top 30, a meteoric rise for a teenager who began the tournament ranked No. 85 in the world and ended 2024
