TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Food, backpacks, shoes, school supplies, bikes and more were given away in Vigo County.

In an effort to support Terre Haute families, Ryves Youth Center hosted its "Back-to-School Night". The goal was to help students start the year with confidence. School supplies were limited to members of Ryves Youth Center.

At no cost, a membership offers programs such as tutoring and afterschool activities. At the event, shoes were one of the most popular items and one of the most needed.

"Kids want to look their best and they wanna be prepared and they wanna be ready and they wanna be just like the rest of their peers and so for us it's just is another way of providing some of those resources for them, so that way they can be ready to hit the school year running," s
