TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Department of Environmental Conservation has euthanized a bull moose on the Goodman Mountain Trail after confirming its health was declining. DEC officials said wildlife staff have been monitoring the sick moose since June.

According to the DEC, the moose was first sighted in May when hikers reported the house was close to the hikers. After assessing the moose's movement and location, the DEC closed the trail.

Officials said the moose was monitored through trail cameras throughout July and during a site visit on August 6, wildlife staff and a veterinarian reported seeing advanced signs of disease in the moose.
