A grieving family is speaking out after a judge granted bond to the man accused of being high and speeding when he struck and killed a landscaper in Cutler Bay.

Carlos Delahoz-Vega, a father of two, was working along U.S. 1 in a reflective vest when he was hit by a BMW last month. According to investigators, the impact threw him onto the hood and windshield before he landed violently on the pavement. He died at the scene.

“He gets to go home and sleep in his bed,” said Delahoz-Vega’s sister, Ileana Morales. “But my brother doesn’t get to sleep in a bed. My parents don’t sleep. I don’t sleep.”

The driver, identified as Daniel Alvarez, appeared in bond court Thursday. An arrest report indicates Alvarez was speeding and under the influence at the time of the crash. Despite this, the judg
