COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - President Trump’s sweeping new tariffs in place, as August 7th consumer goods being imported into the United States are now taxed at its highest rate since the 1930’s. It’s an 18 percent tax on those goods such as food, clothes, and electronics.
President and CEO Jansen Tidmore says both business owners and consumers need to be patient. He says everyone is trying to figure out how Tariffs will impact the country in the long run.
“We’ve looked over this all of 2025. The name of the game right now around tariffs is wait and see, we’ve seen that play out with business just kind of holding put waiting to see what it’s going to impact.” says president and CEO of Columbus chamber of commerce Jansen Tidmore.
