Boeing is seeking to remove or raise the production limit on its 737 MAX series as the longest variant nears certification completion. Following the discovery of a deicing issue and another unique vulnerability, design corrections are expected to be finished on the engines in the next several months.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) directed corrective action of the overheating and thrust loss during extended taxing. Later it was also found that if fan is damaged by a bird strike, a load-reduction mechanism built into each engine, intended to cushion the airframe, may cause oil leaks and smoke in the cabin.
