MANASSAS, Va. (DC News Now) -- A massive data center project in Prince William County will not be moving forward after a judge ruled in favor of homeowners Thursday who said the county did not advertise its zoning changes properly.
Since late 2022, the Prince William Digital Gateway project has been the subject of numerous lawsuits. Opponents worry about their property values, quality of living, and have environmental concerns about being close to the Manassas National Battlefield Park.
In December 2023, the county board of supervisors rezoned land in Gainesville to allow for data centers, but on Thursday, a judge ruled the rezoning was void.
"The digital gateway has been overturned," said Elena Schlossberg, executive director of the Coalition to Protect Prince William County.
