HANCOCK COUNTY -- Multiple wildfires have been plaguing the Hancock County area over the last few days, something crews say is exacerbated by our hot, dry weather.

"The ground is just dry enough that anything that hits the ground that has a heat source is what's starting these fires," explained Ellsworth Fire Chief Scott Guillerault.

A 1/2 acre woods fire kept Ellsworth and Mariaville crews busy Thursday afternoon.

"For Ellsworth this is probably the second or third incident in the last two days that we've been dealing with," explained Guillerault, who helped battle the blaze after helping fight a 3-acre wildfire in Castine that's been going on for multiple days.

No injuries have been reported from the Castine fire and crews have it under control without it spreading to nearby homes.
