WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Wichita City Council on Thursday approved $130,000 to add a new outdoor fitness court at Osage Park in south Wichita.
The project is part of the National Fitness Campaign, which builds small, open-air gyms. Wichita’s first fitness court, installed at Pat Garcia Veterans Memorial Park in 2023, has been more popular than the national average, according to usage data, the city says.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas is contributing a $40,000 grant toward the $170,000 project. The rest will come from the city’s Pawnee Prairie Park Improvements fund.
Osage Park already features ballfields, courts, a splash pad, and a playground. City officials say the new court will give residents more free exercise options. Installation is expected later this year.
