SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - South Bend’s westside communities are still reeling following the closure of the Kroger grocery store there.
The very real existence of a food desert on the west side was among the topics discussed at Thursday night’s meeting of the LaSalle Park Neighborhood Association.
The western branch library served as the gathering place for the planning and strategy meeting.
The westside has seen loss beyond the community’s anchor grocery.
The meeting found neighbors talking not just about food access, but also housing, safety, the overall environment and more.
