LONGVIEW, Texas — A 93-year-old veteran is turning heads at a Longview retirement home, not just for his service, but for his skill with a pool cue.
Honored on Purple Heart Day, the Marine Corps veteran who lost a leg and an eye in the Korean War now dominates the pool table at Arabella of Longview.
"I can't see too well anymore, so I gave up bingo. I’d mess up other people if I played cards, but with pool, if I mess up, it’s just on me. So I stick with it and try to get better,” Tom Klotz said.
Klotz, a proud Marine Corps veteran and Purple Heart recipient who fought in the Korean War, was wounded in action in his final mission when a land mine took his right leg and left eye.
