CORRYTON, Tenn. (WATE) — Gibbs football will have a new face under center this season.
Last year's starting quarterback, Warren Axton, led the Eagles to a 10-4 season while averaging over 30 points per game. Axton has since graduated, leaving the spot open for promising sophomore Keith Jones.
Gibbs Head Coach Brad Turner has had his eyes on Jones for a while as he watched him on the middle school team, as well as on the freshman squad last season. Jones has yet to take a snap in a varsity game, but has earned the confidence of his coach and teammates to get back to the playoffs in 2025.
"He's been around a lot of football and has played a lot of competitive football at a high level," said Coach Turner. "He doesn't look like a 15-year-old, so that's a positive."
