ROME – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has once again launched a sharp attack on the judiciary and opposition, accusing judges of political bias aimed at blocking her government’s immigration policies and the left of seeking “external help” to undermine Italy.

In an interview with Tg5 broadcast on Wednesday , Meloni criticised the country’s judicial decisions on immigration, highlighting the Almasri case, which has put ministers in hot water. The government’s extradition of a Sudanese national accused of war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC) sparked proceedings by the special tribunal that targets ministers to bring cases against those involved. Meloni described the request to prosecute as “surreal” and the dismissal of charges as “even more surreal”.
