PRAGUE – Most Czechs are not prepared for emergencies, lacking essential supplies, Interior Minister Vít Rakušan said on Thursday while launching a new emergency preparedness guide.

“We know that 73% of the population is not preparing for crisis situations. They don’t have any emergency supplies or other essentials ready,” Rakušan said.

The data comes from a public survey commissioned by the interior ministry. While 97% of citizens trust firefighters, 76% trust the police, and 74% trust the army to help in emergencies, many also want to know how to take care of themselves, the study found.

The new guide, titled “72 Hours”, offers practical advice for the first three days of an emergency and covers situations such as floods, fires, or outages of basic services.
